What I do
"The cultural role of images is decisive, just as words are. Images are directly related to the realm of mentalities, and their cultural and historical significance lies in the intentions, uses, and purposes that enable their production and trajectory. Every photograph results from a process of creation."
Boris Kossoy, in The Times of Photography
Do you know Fine Art Photography?
According to the Fine Art Council of the University of Iowa – USA, fine arts are those that emphasise aesthetic concepts over practical application. The five main fine arts, according to Clicio Barroso Filho, were originally painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and poetry, which, however, evolved to include many other forms such as theatre, dance, calligraphy, photography, and engraving. The Fine Arts encompass both two-dimensional artworks such as illustrations, paintings and drawings, mosaics, engravings, and photography, as well as three-dimensional artworks represented by sculpture. Other forms of art are related to dance, theatre, and cinema.
"I know no better definition of the word art than this: Art is man added to nature; to nature, to reality, to truth, but with meaning, with a conception, with a character that the artist emphasises, and to which he gives expression, rescues, distinguishes, liberates, illuminates."
Vincent van Gogh, in Letters to Theo, June 1879.
